Geetanjali Medical College (2024): 29% knowledge improvement and 92% faculty expansion support from e-portfolio implementation.

The Study

A 2024 study at Geetanjali Medical College examined e-portfolio implementation among 48 Phase III MBBS students in Community Medicine. Published in PMC.

Key Findings

  • 29% knowledge improvement in the e-portfolio group compared to 19% through traditional seminars
  • 88% faculty satisfaction with the e-portfolio approach
  • 92% of faculty wanted ePortfolios expanded to other subjects
  • Students reported improved engagement with longitudinal clinical learning

Why This Matters

This is one of the few Indian studies providing quantitative evidence for ePortfolio effectiveness in CBME. The results directly address scepticism from Indian faculty about whether ePortfolios add value over traditional methods. The strong faculty desire for expansion (92%) suggests that once experienced, ePortfolios overcome initial resistance.
